In 1991, “The Source” magazine commended him in its ‘Unsigned Hype’ feature, which showcased emerging hip-hop artists who had not yet signed with a record label. During that same year, he secured a contract with Rufflhouse Records, a subsidiary company of Columbia Records, and subsequently launched his first single, ‘Born Loser’. In 1994, he unveiled his second single titled ‘Make a Move’. However, his debut major-label hit, ‘Get at Me Dog,’ released on Def Jam Recordings in February 1998, brought him the most recognition and popularity.

The single garnered significant praise and achieved a gold certification from the R.I.A.A. Released in May 1998, his debut album “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot” swiftly claimed the top spot on the Billboard 200 list, selling over five million copies.

DMX is a highly talented actor who has appeared in numerous films such as “Belly,” “Cradle 2 the Grave,” “Exit Wounds,” and “The Last Hour,” among others. He succumbed to a heroin overdose and heart attack on April 9, 2021.
