Finn Bálor’s status as one of the biggest figures in professional wrestling is well-deserved. The athlete was born on July 25, 1981 in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland as Fergal Devitt. His astrological sign is Leo, and he is of Irish descent. Bálor is the second of five siblings and the son of Fintan and Leonie Devitt.

Before his wrestling debut, Bálor trained at the NWA UK Hammerlock. He subsequently won the NWA British Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship and began traversing Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States shortly thereafter. In 2005, he won the Commonwealth Championship for the second time by defeating Dru Onyx. He began wrestling for the Millennium Wrestling Federation (M.W.F.) later that year.

He debuted on television during the November edition of the M.W.F television championship. Bálor inked a contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling in March 2006 and debuted under the name Prince Devitt a month later. In 2008, he won the IGWP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship after teaming up with other wrestlers from the same promotion. In 2009, he lost the majority of the tag team wrestling competitions he reached the finals of. He entered the 2010 Best of the Super Juniors Championship and won, earning him the opportunity to compete in the June 2010 IGWP Junior Heavyweight Championship, which he also won.

He and Ryusuke Taguchi won the Heavyweight Tag Team Championship for the second time as a tag team, and Bálor went on to win the title seven more times with various partners. In 2011, he also successfully defended his heavyweight title and held it for 364 days. He won the 2013 Best of the Super Juniors Championship, his second victory in the competition. In 2014, he signed a contract with W.W.E. and promptly joined NXT. At NXT Takeover: R Evolution, he defeated “The Ascension” with the assistance of Hideo Itami. Later that year, he also won the NXT Takeover: Rivals.

He was the longest-reigning NXT Champion in 2015. Bálor was selected as the fifth-overall wrestler for Raw in the 2016 W.W.E. draught and defeated other competitors to earn the opportunity to compete for the W.W.E. Universal Championship. He defeated Seth Rollins and claimed his first world championship, as well as the inaugural Universal Championship. After three years with Raw and a brief television sabbatical, Bálor returned to NXT in 2019 and continued to compete and win championships.

In June of 2019, the wrestler confirmed his relationship with sports journalist Vero Rodriguez, and they wed in August of that year. Presently, they live in Orlando, Florida.

Finn is a shortened variant of his father’s given name, Fintan Devitt.

When Bálor joined the NJPW, his intended name was King Devitt; however, people questioned why a 24-year-old who was new to wrestling would be dubbed a king; consequently, he changed his name to Prince Devitt.

Bálor played Gaelic football, which is a combination of soccer, rugby and American football, using a volleyball-shaped object.
