Early Years and Education
Chhillar was born in Rohtak on 14 May 1997 to a Haryanvi family, although her ancestral residence is in Bamnoli village, Jhajjar district. Dr Mitra Basu Chhillar is a physician and scientist at Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), while her mother, Dr Neelam Chhillar, is also a medical doctor and department director of neurochemistry at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.
Chhillar attended St. Thomas’ School in New Delhi, was the class 12 all-India CBSE English subject winner, and scored 96 per cent on her examinations. She passed the All India Pre-Medical Examination (now NEET) on her first try. She was pursuing an MBBS degree at Sonipat’s Bhagat Phool Singh Medical College.
In addition to her native Haryanvi, Chhillar is also fluent in Hindi and English. She is a trained Kuchipudi performer, having received her instruction from Raja and Radha Reddy.
Career
Chhillar made her Bollywood debut with Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s Samrat Prithviraj for Yash Raj Films. Based on Prithviraj Raso, an epic poem composed in Braj Bhasha about the life of Prithviraj Chauhan. A Rajput monarch from the Chahamana dynasty, the film depicts his exploits. She was selected in the film as the Princess of Kannauj, Sanyogita, Prithviraj’s wife, after several auditions and trials. She will co-star with Akshay Kumar, who will play the title character Prithviraj.
The film was originally scheduled to debut on Diwali in 2020, but its release was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Chhillar elaborated on her role, stating, “It is a tremendous responsibility to portray Princess Sanyogita, a strong individual who stood up for what was right and made the most significant decisions of her life on her own.”
Chhillar inked a three-film deal with Yash Raj Films, and her second film, The Great Indian Family, is a comedy film backed by the banner and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. In which she will star opposite Vicky Kaushal. She will also co-star with John Abraham in Tehran, directed by Dinesh Vijan.
