On December 6, 1984, in Danderyd Hospital, Marie Britt Rotman, a Swedish mother, and Erik Oscar Hellqvist, a Danish-Swedish father, welcomed Sofia Kristina into the world. Hellqvist attended Vansbro Education Centre to study art. In an effort to more closely align Swedish royalty with the position of head of state, her father-in-law, the king, withdrew Prince Alexander and Prince Gabriel’s royal status on October 7, 2019.
