Under the Right to Education Act of 2009, the state director of primary education has enrolled 54,903 students in Class 1. This year, the department has accepted 68,118 applications for private school admission under the RTE Act. The department received 98,501 applications for admission to Class 1, of which 64,976 were approved and 14,532 were rejected due to a lack of documents or the submission of incorrect documents.
The department’s statement indicated that 27,917 RTE reserved seats remain unfilled in the state and will be filled in the second round. Parents whose children have been admitted must visit the schools with their original documents and confirm their admission by May 13 at the latest, according to the statement.
Three days were given to the parents of these children to make corrections to their rejected applications. 6 074 applicants made corrections to their applications by the deadline’s end, and their applications were accepted. However, 8,458 applicants did not amend their applications, so they were denied, according to a department statement.
In addition, the department rejected 18,993 applications because they were deemed ineligible.
Admissions registrations commenced on April 10 and concluded on April 22. The deadline for submitting amended applications was April 27.
Under the RTE Act, private elementary schools must provide 25% of their available seats to students from financially disadvantaged families. In the 2023-24 school year, the state government will admit 83,326 students to private schools. These seats are from the state’s 9,855 schools.
According to the department, of these available seats, 42,021 are in Gujarati medium schools, 37,775 are in English medium schools, and 3,530 are in Urdu, Marathi, Hindi, and Oriya language schools. In 2012, the state government allotted 71,396 seats to students.
