Aadhaar to be part of the curriculum in UP govt schools: Beginning with the next academic year, children attending state-run schools in Uttar Pradesh will be taught about Aadhaar, the 12-digit unique identification number that functions as proof of identity and address for Indian residents.
The Department of basic education has agreed in principle with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Lucknow to include an Aadhaar chapter in the school textbooks.

In a recent meeting with UIDAI officials, the director general of school education, Vijay Kiran Anand, requested a formal proposal for the incorporation of Aadhaar and related data in order to obtain government approval.
“Children should be aware of general information about Aadhaar, such as its benefits and applications. We will include Aadhaar-related information in our textbooks beginning with the upcoming academic year, said Anand.
Officials said a comparable pattern exists in Punjab. The chapter on Aadhaar details its enrollment procedure, cost, distinguishing characteristics, and authentication.
The UIDAI has even compiled a document titled “Mera Aadhaar, Meri Pehchaan” that contains a dialogue between two students highlighting the necessity and benefits of Aadhaar.
Lt. Col. Prashant Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General of UIDAI Lucknow, stated, “Children must be informed of the unique enrollment procedure for Aadhaar that applies to them. By including a chapter on Aadhaar, its utilisation, and its features in textbooks, we hope to educate students about the programme. Through Aadhaar details, minors can benefit from several government programmes, including free uniforms and midday meals.
Singh stated that biometric information is not collected during Aadhaar enrollment for minors under the age of five.
“As a consequence, fingerprints and iris scans are not included in the Aadhaar database for children. Once an infant reaches the age of five, it is required that their biometrics be updated in Aadhaar,” he explained.
If a full-fledged chapter cannot be added, the UIDAI team has also provided the option of printing the Aadhaar details on the inside cover pages of school textbooks and notebooks.
