Over 40 deemed-to-be universities, 18 state private universities, and 22 state universities make up the remaining universities.

DU AMU among 105 universities: Wednesday, the University Grants Commission announced that 105 universities, including 19 central universities (CUs), will launch the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) prior to undergraduate admissions for the 2023-24 session.

Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University, Viswa Bharti University, Assam University, Silchar, Tezpur University, Central University of Jammu, Sikkim University, National Sanskrit University, and Maulana Azad National Urdu University are among the CUs that offer four-year programmes. Over 40 deemed-to-be universities, 18 state private universities, and 22 state universities make up the remaining universities.

The move is part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which recommends that the undergraduate degree be either three or four years long, with multiple exit options within this period, and appropriate certifications: a UG certificate after completing one year of study in a discipline or field including vocational and professional areas, or a UG diploma after two years of study, or a Bachelor’s degree after a three-year programme.

The policy had recommended that the four-year multidisciplinary Bachelor’s programme be favoured because it provides the opportunity to experience the full range of holistic and multidisciplinary education in addition to a focus on the student’s chosen major and minors.

UGC formulated a new “Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP)” with a flexible Choice-based Credit System (CBCS), multidisciplinary approach, and multiple entry and exit alternatives based on the NEP’s recommendations.

A credit range of 20-22 credits per semester is being designed in accordance with the framework. Semesters 1, 2, and 3 aim to develop an understanding of all key learning domains, including the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, mathematical and computational thinking and analysis, and vocational education.

In the fourth, fifth, and sixth semesters, students will choose a disciplinary or interdisciplinary area of specialisation for their major and minor. In the seventh and eighth semesters, they will engage in research projects and advanced disciplinary and interdisciplinary coursework. The framework specifies the FYUGP curriculum components and credit allocation.

Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, English And Foreign Languages University, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Rajiv Gandhi University, and the central universities of Haryana, South Bihar, and Tamil Nadu are also included on the list.
