Extra-mural lecture: Professor S. Manazir Ali of JN Medical College gave an extramural lecture on “Mother and Child Care” at the Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension, Aligarh Muslim University.

Dr. Ali stressed the rights of both mother and child and urged everyone to uphold a mother’s right to a healthy diet both throughout her pregnancy and after giving birth. According to him, the health of the mother is reflected in the birth of a healthy kid, and life’s prosperity begins at conception. A healthy mother is essential to a healthy country.

He said that people should be taught to transport pregnant women to the closest health centres so that doctors can care for them and their unborn children in the event of any complications during or after birth. In rural regions, where approximately 90% of deliveries occur at home, this is where people should be trained.

He advised the moms to nurse their infants, saying that breast milk is the best nourishment for infants up to six months of age. A baby should weigh 2.5 kg at delivery, according to his statement.

About 27 million women become pregnant and 26 million mothers give birth to living children each year, according to Dr. Ali. In comparison to infant mortality, which is 27.69 per 1000 live births, maternal mortality is 97 per 100,000 live births. The death rate for those under five is 41.9 per 1000 live births, whereas the rate for neonates is 24.9 per 1000 live births.

The center’s director, Dr. Shamim Akhtar, gave a vote of gratitude and welcomed the guest speaker.
