In-House Students’ Research Convention winners declared

The first, second, and third place winners will receive cash awards of Rs. 4000, Rs. 3000, and Rs. 2500, respectively, at the Sir Syed Day ceremony on October 17.

In-House Students’ Research Convention: The Sir Syed Day Celebrations in 2023 included a “In-House Students’ Research Convention” organised by Aligarh Muslim University’s Innovation Council and University Incubation Centre (IC and UIC). The purpose of the annual event is to encourage kids to think creatively and with a scientific mindset.

The IC and UIC invited PhD, undergraduate, and graduate students from the following five academic fields to submit abstracts: agriculture; health sciences, including pharmacy and nutrition; engineering and technology; basic sciences and humanities; social sciences; commerce; management; law; international studies; and technology. A total of 63 ideas were submitted under various categories from students who were requested to submit their abstracts either alone or in groups of three.

Sadiya Firdaus (M. Tech, Processing and Food Engineering) got the top prize in the agricultural sciences category, and Mohd Sabeel (Agricultural Economics and Business Management) took second place.

The team of Aiman Khan and Shams Uddoha Khan (both MA English majors) took home the top honour in the humanities and social sciences, while Ashmil Shas Ahammad (Economics) took home the runner-up spot.

The first place in the Basic Sciences category was won by Depanshu Varshney (Physics), with Mohammad Yasir Khan (PhD Chemistry) and Mohd Zeeshan (PhD Chemistry) taking second and third place, respectively.

Mohammad Muaz and Azam Raza (Interdisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre) took home the top honours in the engineering and technology category, followed by Lavish Upadhyay (B.Tech. Electrical Engineering) in second place and the team of Mohd Mazin Jameel, Nabeel Ali, and Syed Hashir Faheem (Electronics Engineering) in third.

Aisha Samreen (PG Dental Surgery) won the top honour in the health sciences category, and the team of Alvia Farheen (M.Sc. Final Zoology) and Sabahat Ariba (B.Sc. Final Zoology) took second place. The third place went to Sara Izhar (M.Tech. in Processing and Food Engineering).

The first, second, and third place winners will receive cash awards of Rs. 4000, Rs. 3000, and Rs. 2500, respectively, at the Sir Syed Day ceremony on October 17. They will also receive a souvenir and a certificate of appreciation.

Following an 8–10 minute presentation of the participants’ work, there was an opportunity for questions and answers.

A large group of faculty members from various departments of studies judged the submissions twice, and the final round was judged by a panel of judges that included Professors S.K. Singh, Mehdi Abbas Rizvi, Amanullah Khan, Imtiaz Hasnain, and Waseem Ahmad.
