Kolkata University withdraws restrictive notice after backlash from teachers' association

Netaji Subhas Open University rescinded the authority’s notice instructing employees not to make statements on social media or in the press.

The university authority issued and disseminated an earlier notice on July 17. Within two days, the university rescinded the notice, and the registrar’s office issued a new notice on Wednesday stating, “The order referenced in Memo No. Reg/0781 dated 14.07.2023 is rescinded with immediate effect. This has the sanction of the University’s competent authority.”

After the notice was issued by the authority on July 17, the University teachers’ association issued a press release in opposition to such an instruction.

According to sources, under this duress, the interim vice chancellor of the university, Chandan Basu, resigned on Tuesday and submitted his resignation letter to the Raj Bhaban, as he was to be appointed by chancellor C V Ananda Bose in April. TOI attempted to contact him, but he did not answer the call.
