National Education Day observed: In observance of National Education Day, the Department of Education at Aligarh Muslim University hosted a programme honouring the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the renowned independence fighter and India’s first education minister.
The main guest, Prof. Mirza Asmer Beg, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, emphasised the importance of starting a public awareness campaign to spread nationalism and secularism, which were among the main tenets of Maulana Azad’s life, among common people.

Prof. Mujibul Hasan Siddiqui, the department chair, welcomed the guests earlier and gave a brief overview of the day’s events while highlighting several incidents from Maulana Azad’s life.
In his speech, “Maulana Abul Kalam Azad as an architect of Modern Indian Education,” convener Dr. Aftab Ahmad Ansari emphasised Azad’s contributions to the field of education.
During his speech, Dr. Mohd. Shaheer Siddiqui discussed “Education after Independence and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad” and showed a documentary on the latter’s life.
Prof. Mirza Asmer Beg, the chief guest, presented certificates to the winners of several programmes, including Jan Jatiya Gaurav Diwas, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, and Swachhta Pakhwada.
Prof. Nasrin, the former department chair, offered a vote of gratitude. The programme was run by Abu Maaz and Shafiya Waseem.
