Upcoming film from A24: Many Texans have long joked—or dreamed—that their state should break away from the union, but a new movie imagines that happening and even pairs up Texans with an unusual ally.
Written and directed by Alex Garland, Civil War on A24 features Wagner Mora, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Kirsten Dunst, and other notable actors in a world where 19 states have broken away “in a near-future America,” descending into violent anarchy. Also fighting on the front lines are the “Western Forces of Texas and California.”
Many are scratching their heads about this: In what manner were those two able to work together to overthrow a terrible president.
The YouTube commenter AwesomenessTV, a film and television production company, said, “I’m going to see this just to find out how Texas and Cali ended up on the same side.” Another commenter stated, “The craziest part of this trailer is them saying Texas and California are on the same team.” “I would’ve thought those would’ve been the two team captains for the opposing sides.”

California and Texas have always simmered with animosity. California has more people than Texas, but Texas has more land. These are the two largest states in the lower 48. When it comes to presidential elections, they are on opposing sides of the political spectrum. Two competing tech centres are located there, in Austin and San Francisco, respectively. Additionally, it appears that they are switching around residents.
However, given all the previously discussed factors, it might make sense for Texas and California to form a strong alliance in the event that society collapses. Together, with their vast amounts of territory, population, and resources, they may pose a serious threat. After all, two is better than one. Naturally, though, let’s hope it never really happens.
