My Happy Marriage: The official KADOKAWA Anime YouTube Channel has uploaded a documentary about the production of the Netflix anime My Happy Marriage. The first episode of the documentary series is now available with English subtitles on YouTube so that viewers can learn about the production process and all the details that went into creating My Happy Marriage.

The first episode of the documentary series focuses on the Direction and Animation of the anime. It introduces three distinct sections that contributed to the creation of the episode one’s final edit, “Cut #303,” which depicts the first meeting between Miyo and Kiyoka.
The video production begins with the development of the edit and storyboard. Takehiro Kubota, the director, describes his reasoning behind the creation of edit #303: “I intended for the conclusion of Episode 1 to showcase Miyo and Kiyoka’s first encounter, culminating in Miyo’s attraction to him. […] I concentrated on incorporating a variety of visual transitions and establishing rhythm with zoom in and zoom out effects.” pertaining to this incident.
Next, one of Kinema Citrus’ keyframe animators describes how difficult it was to make the cut, delving into the materials and techniques used to achieve the correct timing and seamless transitions between the various elements created for this scene.
The episode concludes by demonstrating how one of Kinema Citrus’ in-betweeners draws the frames that cover the gaps between keyframes and how they are inspected prior to video conversion.
My Happy Marriage debuted on Netflix on July 5, 2023, and is presently streaming concurrently with its Japanese broadcast. Based on the Japanese light novel series written by Akumi Agitogi and illustrated by Tsukiho Tsukioka, which was published in Japan by KADOKAWA. The light novel is published by Yen Press, while the manga is published by Square Enix Manga & Books.

Synopsis of My Happy Marriage
Despite being born into a noble family, Miyo lost her birth mother at a young age and was tortured by her stepmother and stepsister throughout her childhood. When she ultimately receives word that she will be wed, she discovers that her future husband, Kiyoka, has a reputation for being cruel and ruthless. In fact, he has had innumerable ex-fiancées, none of whom remained with him for more than three days. Miyo, resigned to the fact that her family has abandoned her, taps on the Kudo residence’s gate and is greeted by a handsome man with pale skin. Miyo is unable to return to her former home despite the poor treatment she receives from her future husband during their first meeting. Instead, she spends her time cooking and doing chores. However, as time passes, Miyo and Kiyoka steadily begin to open their hearts to one another.
