Bartender Appreciation Day 2023: Bartender Appreciation Day is on December 2, which is the first Friday of the month. We can’t wait to tell these servers how much we love them! There are many names for these people who work behind bars, but we know them as bartenders. They give us drinks and food, keep us company, and sometimes even tell us a story or two. Let’s raise a glass to the people who work late at our favorite restaurants, bars, and clubs to keep the drinks coming.

What Bartender Appreciation Day Is All About

This job has a history that goes back to when dinosaurs walked the earth. I kid you not! But they did exist in Greece and Rome, where they worked in public drinking rooms that were also places for people to get together. Over the years, these guys worked. In Europe in the 1400s, they were widely known as “innkeepers.” Bartenders were usually male or female owners of alehouses or inns, and they made their own drinks. Since drinking alcohol was seen as bad in the Middle Ages, the job had a bad image.

Over time, taverns and other similar places became important places for writers and workers to do business, and bartenders became more respected in society. As more people moved to the New World to settle there, bars started to show up.

There were a lot of changes in the American bar scene in the 1800s. All over the country, this job became respected, and it was also one of the best-paying ones. It was said that at that time, popular bartender Jerry Thomas made more money than the Vice President of the United States.

In the United States, selling, drinking, making, and transporting alcohol was illegal during the 20th century. As a result, illegal speakeasies took the place of the nation’s famous bars. People who used to work as bartenders got other jobs or moved to big places like Paris and London. So many American drinkers who missed their old hangouts came to these places that they were called “American bars” all over these towns. Hotels in London and Paris, like the Savoy and the Ritz, became popular spots for cocktails. Their bars were always making tasty new drinks. In American speakeasies in the past, people were coming up with new drinks and cocktails. During the Prohibition Era, people came up with new drinks like the gin and tonic.

Now that prohibition is over, there are bars and cocktail clubs all over the United States. As more bartending schools opened, more people chose to become bartenders as a job.

Sailor Jerry Rum established Bartender Appreciation Day to show his appreciation for all bartenders. November and December 1 are some of the busiest times for bartenders, along with Fridays. That’s why they picked early December. Another thing Sailor Jerry has been asking for is for this day to be made a paid holiday for bartenders. The brand also works with other groups to put on events and games, and it holds contests to find the best bartender in the country. They have even given bartenders free pizza, clothes, and cab rides home in the past.

Tell your favorite bartender

Tell your favorite bartender why they’re the best by going to see them. Thank them for a job well done, and watch their faces light up.

Show your appreciation in some way.

When you do something important, it’s the thought that counts. Any way you like, show the bartender(s) you meet today how much you appreciate and thank them. You could leave them a bigger tip than normal (tips are a big part of their income, so giving a little extra is very kind), buy them a drink (if they agree), or just laugh with them.

Aid them in their work a little

When the time comes, take a taxi, don’t be that annoying drunk person, and follow the rules. Being a good customer makes their job easier, and you stay safe too!

They get along with a lot of people.

Bartenders do a lot more for us than just serve us drinks. They are there for us when we need quiet support, an ear that doesn’t judge, and a rock to lean on. Their hard work deserves this praise.

They also need to feel heard.

They hear all of our problems, whether we are aware of it or not. One day a year should be set aside to show them that you care.
