The 15th of February is Canada’s Agriculture Day, and we cannot wait to celebrate in the greatest way possible – by consuming delicious agricultural goods and recognising farmers! Canada is the world’s fifth largest exporter of agricultural and agri-product foods. This alone makes Canada’s Agricultural Day special and essential for everyone who eats agricultural products, allowing us to honour the farmers who produce them.

HISTORY OF CANADA’S AGRICULTURE DAY

Agriculture is a significant enterprise and industry that has a great deal of global relevance. It is what permits humans to function, progress, and concentrate on other elements of life, whatever they may be. A world devoid of agriculture conjures up images of catastrophe, famine, hunger, and unrest. Therefore, we believe it is safe to assert that agriculture is the primary component sustaining modern society.

Agriculture dates back to the time of primitive man, when life was brutish and brief. Humans at the period likely discovered that eating fruits and dumping the seeds on the ground caused them to germinate if specific conditions were met, and they began planting these seeds in places surrounding their colony so they wouldn’t have to go as far to find food in the future. Since then, agriculture has progressed significantly due to the introduction of new forms of machinery and groundbreaking scientific techniques.

Agriculture is one of the most important industries and pillars of the Canadian economy. Archeological evidence indicates that agriculture in Canada began before 2300 B.C., but the indigenous inhabitants of the Canadian Prairies were the first farmers who shaped modern Canadian agriculture. With the advent of wheat and dairy production in the early 1600s, Canadian agriculture began to take on a new form. Canada is currently one of the world’s largest producers of wheat, canola, barley, corn, soya beans, oats, cattle, pork, and dairy products.

Canada Agriculture Day is an initiative of “Agriculture More Than Ever,” an agricultural cause supported by thousands of partners and “agvocates.” It is a day to honour Canadian agriculture, consumers, and producers, as well as to discuss ways to improve Canadian agriculture.
