It is essential to be aware that barefoot walking increases the likelihood of a bee sting, but it is also important to remember the many benefits that bees provide.
The purpose of this day is to raise awareness about the preservation of bees and to highlight their plight due to the devastation of their habitats. Insecticides, especially those containing neonicotinoids, which are lethal to bees, as well as pollution, chemical exposure, and temperature fluctuations, pose a threat to their survival. To ensure that the general public is aware of this day, numerous events are conducted to educate people on how to care for and coexist with these buzzing insects.
Bees have even made their way into popular culture. A comical animated film published in 2007 titled “Bee Movie” depicted a honey bee suing humans for exploiting bees. In addition, Dave Goulson’s 2014 book, “A Sting in the Tale,” describes the biology of bees and his endeavours to save bumblebees in Britain.
People must recognise that if we don’t do our part to preserve pollinators, we could drive them to extinction, which will have repercussions for ecosystems.
