International Day of the African Child 2023: Date, History, Methods, How to Recognise

On June 16, 1971, more than 20,000 South African pupils in the township of Soweto demanded to be taught in their own language by taking to the streets. As a response, armed police officers murdered hundreds of demonstrators. It is now a public holiday in South Africa, known as Youth Day, and is internationally recognised as International Day of the African Child.
