The name Charlotte is thought to have French and English roots, and it is mostly used by women. Charlotte means to be free. Since Charlotte is the feminine form of Charles, Charlie or Charley is a common nickname for it. Charlotte goes by a multitude of other well-known monikers, such as Lottie, Lotta, Char, and Carlotta, which is Charlotte in Italian.

The National Charlotte Day History

Many people with the name Charlotte have had a significant impact on global history, such as the English poet and novelist Charlotte Bronte. Their books are regarded as English literary classics. The third of Maria and Patrick Bronte’s six children, an Irish Anglican priest, Charlotte was born on April 21, 1816.

At the age of 14, Charlotte Bronte enrolled in Roe Head school in 1831. But after only a year, she quit to tutor her sisters, Emily and Anne, at home. She started working as the Sidgwick family’s governess in 1839, but she departed after a few months to return to Haworth, where the sisters started a school. However, it was a failure because they could not draw in students. They soon took up writing, and in 1846 each sister released a novel under the pen names Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell.

Although the publishers rejected Charlotte Bronte’s first book, The Professor, her second book, Jane Eyre, was released in 1847 and was warmly embraced by readers. In 1848, she and her sisters came clean about using pen names, and their writings were instantly hailed in London’s intellectual circles. Out of all her siblings, she passed away last. She married in June 1854, and on March 31, 1855, she passed away. Hyperemesis gravidarum, a pregnancy condition characterized by extreme nausea and vomiting, is most likely the cause of her death.
