Since 2021, National Mature Women’s Day has been observed on April 9. It is a day to honour and celebrate the mature and self-assured women in our lives. It was registered by renowned cosmetics artist Laura Geller and highlights women who can be their own role models and influencers. It is also an ideal moment for older women to begin learning about self-love and to adopt a positive outlook on ageing. This day is dedicated to reminding women that they are unique regardless of their age. Today, we honour all mature women!

The background of National Mature Women’s Day

Laura Geller was raised in the New York suburbs of Rockland County. A beautiful woman who worked in a department store selling cosmetic products was her neighbour. When she desired to be made up for special occasions, such as Sweet Sixteen parties, she would visit her. During these times, she felt empowered, and her fascination with makeup persisted. At age 18, she attended New York’s School of Visual Arts. She was able to work with celebrities such as Audrey Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Paul Newman, and rock star Gene Simmons after landing a position backstage as a theatrical makeup artist on Broadway.

She launched her studio on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, where she became known for her wearable makeup looks over the course of more than two decades. Her charismatic personality served her well when she launched her brand on QVC. Her first product in her Laura Geller Beauty line, a highlight and contour kit, sold out in mere minutes. A few years later, she introduced her Spackle Skin Perfecting Primer as a pioneer in the category of primers. It popularised baked cosmetics and continues to be a cult classic.

The iconic baked formulations of the brand are handcrafted in Italy with mature skin in mind. Its sustained promise is a weightless, silky hue that never cakes. With an emphasis on mature women, her philosophy as a makeup artist for over 35 years has not changed. “We want all women, whether they are 19 or 90, to feel beautiful and worthy,” she says.
