National Situational Awareness Day occurs annually on September 26. The holiday increases awareness of the significance of personal security. Since most of the time we are all responsible for our own safety, it is essential to be reminded of general safety tips. For this reason, National Situational Awareness Day was created.
The background of National Situational Awareness Day
National Situational Awareness Day was authorized in 2016 with September 26 as its date. Pretty Loaded, an organization dedicated to teaching individuals and groups to be more environmentally conscious, submitted the holiday for consideration a year prior.
Beth Warford, the founder of Pretty Loaded, related the narrative that inspired the company. It was an incident involving a stalker in which she and her children nearly came under attack. She recalls being unaware of the situation until it was nearly too late and credits a family member with intervening in time. This event made her recognize that many people are oblivious to their surroundings. Thus, we are not immediately aware of any potential threats.
The term’situational awareness’ refers to a practice described in numerous military texts. The concept reportedly appears in Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War.” During the first World War, the practice appeared to be adopted by pilots in particular.
Situational awareness has assisted many in surviving extremely perilous situations. Many are also taught to avoid potentially hazardous situations, such as walking alone in a dark alley. Numerous businesses now provide situational awareness training, notably on National Situational Awareness Day. In addition, organizations and institutions have provided their employees with the necessary training to help them become more aware of their surroundings.
National Situational Awareness Day is observed to recognize the significance of situational awareness and to encourage more individuals to study fundamental survival techniques for their own safety.
