National Skip School Day 2023: Teenagers in the US will have a great time on December 2, which is National Skip School Day. The idea of a surprise holiday is pretty new, but you may have heard of surprise tests. The holiday doesn’t really serve a purpose. It happened because of a TikTok video that went viral and became very famous among teens. But wait! The day has not yet been named National Skip School Day. So take pleasure in it while it lasts.

What National Ski School Day Is All About

Skipping school isn’t really a new custom if you remember your high school prom. Kids often don’t go to school on the day before senior prom in most American schools. Even though it’s against the law, people call it Ditch Day, Skip Day, or Senior Skip Day. The process didn’t have a name, though, until the fall of 2019.

The story goes that on October 31, 2019, random TikTok users began sharing videos telling teens to skip school on December 2. We don’t know for sure why they picked December 2 over other dates. Like a lot of things on the web, these movies went viral very quickly. With happy, cocky music playing in the background, the videos became popular on December 2. More than two million people saw the term itself. Not only that. An angry person even started a Change.org petition to get teens to back the trend. With only about thirty votes, the petition didn’t get a lot of attention, but it was enough to get into Urban Dictionary.

Even though high school students liked it, school administrators don’t want to make it a holiday. Making National Skip School Day a legal holiday is a whole different story. Many schools don’t mind National Skip School Day as it is. Also, skipping class without telling the teacher is called truancy and can even get you temporarily kicked out of school. Make sure you tell your school about your plans to take a break before you do so, and be careful. And maybe make the most of the day by looking for grants you might be able to apply for.
