One of the creators of “Sesame Street,” Jim Henson, was inspired to create Oscar the Grouch by a boorish waiter at a restaurant named Oscar’s Salt of the Sea. Oscar’s original design depicted a magenta monster with spiky, scowling features. However, due to technological limitations at the time, he redesigned Oscar with orange fur prior to his 1969 debut.
