In 1947, the National Security Act reorganised the U.S. military and intelligence agencies, establishing the Air Force as a separate entity.
President Harry Truman proclaimed the first Air Force Day on August 1, 1947. This was done to honour the personnel of the intrepid United States Air Force and all those who have maintained and expanded the nation’s air power. This holiday was first observed on August 1 to honour the 40th anniversary of the Aeronautical Division of the United States Signal Corps. However, on September 18, the United States Air Force was constituted as a separate branch of the United States Armed Forces, and the date of this holiday was changed.
This day seeks to raise public awareness of the significance of national security and express gratitude to those who risk their lives to protect the nation and preserve its prosperity.
