Who was Madhumita Shukla?
Madhumita Shukla was a young poet whose veer-ras poems had propelled her to renown and made her the star of numerous ‘Kavi Sammelans’. She was from Lakhimpur Kheri and had been garnering prominence since she was 16 or 17 years old. She was renowned for addressing prominent political figures in her poems.
Madhumita’s alleged companion was Amarmani Tripathi, an MLA from eastern Uttar Pradesh and a former minister in the SP government. She formerly resided in a two-room condominium in Paper Mill Colony in the state capital of Lucknow, where she was fatally shot by two individuals on May 9, 2003. It was discovered that Madhumita was seven months pregnant at the time of her demise.

How did the homicide occur?
The assassination of poet Madhumita Shukla occurred on May 9, 2003. The cadaver was discovered at her residence in Nishatganj, Lucknow. When the poet was murdered, he was 24 years old. Principally culpable was Samajwadi Party MLA Amarmani Tripathi.

Case Unfolded
Madhumita Shukla was rumored to be Amarmani Tripathi’s companion. On 9 May 2003, two guests shot and killed Madhumita Shukla in her two-room apartment in Lucknow’s Paper Mill Colony. The case was investigated by the SHO of PS Mahanagar in Lucknow, Ajay Kumar Chaturvedi, who gathered all pertinent information after discovering the deceased’s diary. In addition, he provided sanctuary for a single servant witness and implicated Amarmani Tripathi and his wife. The murder-related phone conversations were traced to Tripathi’s wife Madhumani in Gorakhpur, who was also convicted of the crime.
Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani were subsequently apprehended after the case was transferred to the CBI. Due to Tripathi’s influence, the investigation was transferred to a court in Dehradun on 24 October 2007, where Tripathi, his wife, and three others were found guilty of the murder of Madhumita Shukla.
