In a recent video message commemorating the 350th anniversary of Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation, Modi praised Shivaji’s coronation, which espoused Swaraj principles, and highlighted his role in ending centuries of subservience among the Indian people.

Despite the challenges posed by this deeply ingrained mentality, Shivaji Maharaj instilled in common citizens a belief in self-governance, instilling hope for the future.

Modi highlighted the paramount significance Shivaji Maharaj placed on unity and integrity during his reign, echoing his commitment to the values of ‘Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat.’ In addition, Modi praised Shivaji Maharaj’s visionary approach to maritime expansion and administration, as evidenced by the numerous forts he proudly constructed.

The Prime Minister credited Shivaji with inspiring the Indian Navy’s recent liberation from its colonial past, observing that the Indian Navy’s flag now bears Shivaji’s emblem in place of the British one.

Modi concluded by reiterating his dedication to constructing an India in accordance with Shivaji Maharaj’s visions, with an emphasis on good administration, self-reliance, and swaraj.
Echoing the need to conclude Amrit Kaal’s 25-year journey based on Shivaji’s values, he called for a collective realisation of Shivaji Maharaj’s vision.

At the Raigad Fort in Maharashtra, the 350th anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation was celebrated.
State Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the event.

  • According to the Gregorian calendar, the Maratha warrior monarch was crowned at the Raigad fort on June 6, 1674, laying the foundation for “Hindavi Swaraj” or Hindu self-rule.

  • Culture Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar paid homage to the 17th-century monarch by performing various rituals, including “jalabhishek.”
