During the holiday season, many people travel to other cities, which can cause traffic congestion. On the eve of the Sacrifice Feast, some individuals purchase new clothing and cook food. Others prepare their homes for guests who may wish to remain during the four-day Sacrifice Feast, which follows the Sacrifice Feast Eve. For the Feast of Sacrifice, the chief of each household may select a sacrifice animal (typically a goat, sheep, or cow).
Eid al-Adha is significant because it represents the conclusion of ‘hajj’ or ‘pilgrimage,’ the fifth pillar of Islam. This annual pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, is only obligatory for physically and financially qualified men and women once in their lifetimes.
