Sri Ramanujacharya Jayanti 2023: Sri Ramanujacharya Jayanti, also known as Ramanuja Jayanthi, celebrates the birthday of Ramanujacharya, a renowned South Indian philosopher who argued that bhakti, or devotional adoration of Lord Vishnu in any form, is the most effective means of attaining salvation or moksha. According to multiple North Indian and South Indian calendars, Sri Ramanujacharya Jayanti will occur on April 26, 2023.

History
Sri Ramanuja Acharya was born in the Tamil Nadu village of Sriperumbudur in 1017 CE to parents Kanthimathi and Asuri Kesava Somayaji. His original name was Lakshamana, but he was later known as Ramanuja. He is regarded as one of the foremost philosophers and thinkers, and he contributed significantly to the Sri Vaishnavism tradition and the Bhakti movement, both of which are essential components of Hinduism.
After Ramanuja’s marriage, he relocated to Kanchipuram to study in an Advaita Vedanta monastery under the tutelage of Yadava Prakasa. Due to frequent disagreements with his guru, Ramanuja became estranged from Prakasa and pursued his education independently. According to legend, Prakasa became envious of Ramanuja’s growing popularity and attempted to have him murdered.
Soon thereafter, he realised his error and became a disciple of Ramanuja. Ramanuja subsequently renounced his married life, became a Hindu monk, and began serving as a priest at the Vishnu-dedicated Varadharaja Perumal temple in Kanchipuram. He then began instructing individuals on the principle of moksha (salvation) and how to achieve it with the assistance of the personal deity and saguna Vishnu.

Importance of the Ramanuja Jayanti
