Hansen Gregory and his mother, Elizabeth Gregory, were ship captain and mother in the middle of the nineteenth century. She prepared a wicked deep-fried dough with nutmeg, cinnamon, and lemon peels as ingredients, and she stored these pastries for lengthy voyages. It was believed that her pastries protected against scurvy and the cold, and she added hazelnuts or walnuts to the centre of the dough, which she called donuts. Hansen allegedly invented the donut in 1847.
This culinary innovation flourished in the middle of the nineteenth century, although it is unknown who made the initial decision to inject cream inside of pastries. During this period, moulded desserts and charlottes were popular, and apples, apricots, and other fruits that were typically placed inside desserts were replaced with cream. It is customary for people to bring donuts to the office to cheer up their colleagues. The donut company Krispy Kreme even has “cream” in its name, proving that cream and donuts go hand in hand.
