National Croatian Wine Day 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities

National Croatian Wine Day is observed annually in the United States on June 25. Founded by Anna M. Viducic, proprietor of Aroma Wine Co., the holiday honours the exceptional and distinctive wines produced in Croatia, some of which have a 2,500-year history.

The background of National Croatian Wine Day

National Croatian Wine Day was instituted by Anna M. Viducic, the originator of Aroma Wine Co. Speaking about her passion for wine, Viducic said, “I was born into a Croatian family and reared in Paris, France, but I have spent the majority of my summer vacations in Croatia, taking advantage of everything the country has to offer, including working in my family’s vineyards. “Wine is in my blood, and I have made it my mission to promote Croatian wines internationally.”

Given that Croatia has approximately 120 indigenous grape varieties and four important wine regions, namely the Croatian Uplands, Dalmatia, Istria and Kvarner, and Slavonia and Croatian Danube, it is possible that wine runs in Viducic’s veins.

In another interview, Viducic expressed her passion for promoting Croatian wine awareness, stating, “As I shifted my focus to wine brand strategies and education, I could have a significant impact by creating an ongoing recognition of Croatia and its indigenous wines among American wine lovers.” She declared June 25 National Croatian Wine Day due to her passion for the subject.

During its inaugural observance, the holiday began with masterclasses highlighting the diverse wine regions and indigenous wine varieties of Croatia. The morning segment was designed for the media, while the evening session was for wine enthusiasts. Viducic was able to dispatch wines to participants for virtual masterclasses and wine tastings through a partnership with Croatian Premium Wine Imports.
