This year, Poet in a Cupcake Day is observed on April 7, which is the Friday of the first full week of April. This event is the culmination of Take Your Poet to School Week, during which each day has a designated theme and certain activities are performed to express appreciation for poets. Poet in a Cupcake Day is a chance to decorate delectable cupcakes with verses from your favourite poets.
The background of Poet in a Cupcake Day
Poet in a Cupcake Day was established in April 2018 by Tweetspeak, which was originally a poetry community that frequently hosted poetry parties where individuals could attend, compose, and submit poetry on Twitter or their blog website. These parties developed rapidly, attracting new attention and members.
Tweetspeak was founded by a small group of Twitter users who enjoyed composing and sharing poetry online. They launched Tweetspeak on October 3, 2009 to keep up with their poetry archives and party activities. Eric Swalberg, a software developer, created their first website, after which they began to experience significant growth and increased social media following.
Tweetspeak was acquired by T. S. Poetry Press, a publisher of poetry and other forms of literature, in March of 2012. A T.S. poetry Press book was designated one of Oprah’s Best Summer Reads on June 8, the same year. Tweetspeak introduced its first annual Poetry at Work Day on January 15, 2013 and was featured on Huffington Post’s Austengaza. On July 2, 2013, Tweetspeak issued the first of many “poetry dares” inviting reluctant readers to discover poetry’s gifts, which received a positive response from the public.
The first Take Your Poet to Work Day occurred on July 16, 2013, and poets invaded workplaces around the globe. It was featured in the “New York Observer” and “Paris Review.” In April 2018, Take Your Poet to School Week culminated with Poet in a Cupcake Day, bringing our beloved poets into the school year.

DAY OF THE POET IN A CAKE ACTIVITIES
Bake and embellish some cupcakes.
Bake an entire sheet pan of cupcakes. Decorate the cake with frosting, sprinkles, and a poet sticker on a popsicle stick or skewer. You can also draw and colour your own images.
Share your cupcakes with colleagues and acquaintances
You can bring festive delicacies to school or work and share them with your classmates or coworkers. Additionally, you can share photographs of your pastries on social media.
Decorate a cut ‘n colour cupcake
If you’re short on culinary time or seeking a healthier alternative, you can download and print cut-and-color cupcake patterns and decorate them with crayons, magic markers, or glitter paint. You may also scribble a poem on coloured cardboard and affix it to the object.
