Tuesday evening, two suspects identified by Maui County began releasing the names of those who perished in the fire. Lahaina residents Robert Dyckman, 74, and Buddy Jantoc, 79, were among those named on Tuesday evening. Their fatalities, along with five others reported on the same day, paralysed the state as communities mourned the loss of their loved ones.

In the meantime, on Tuesday afternoon, Governor Josh Green conducted a press conference during which he expressed his condolences to a state still in mourning. Seven additional fatalities were reported on Tuesday.

Vice President Biden assured Hawaii on Tuesday that the federal government would provide “whatever” the state required to combat the Lahaina fire, and he promised to visit Maui once recovery efforts in the ravaged area were complete.

During a speech in Wisconsin, Biden characterised the recovery effort as “painful.” A week after a wave of fire swept through the town of Lahaina, authorities are concerned that additional corpses may be discovered. The Maui fire is the worst in the United States in more than a century.

Officials estimated that approximately one-third of the most severely afflicted regions had been examined. Green stated on HNN’s Sunrise earlier today that minors are among the victims of the fire. “When the bodies are smaller, we know it’s a child,” explained Green.

According to federal officials, despite ongoing efforts to locate missing loved ones, there may still be significant communication barriers preventing some people from reuniting with their families.

With the assistance of the Red Cross, the county has opened a resource centre where individuals can notify missing loved ones and provide DNA samples for potential identification.

According to a Red Cross spokesperson, over 2,500 people have contacted the organisation in search of missing family members. The preponderance of cases, approximately 800, have been resolved.
