The LA County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office announced on August 17 that Heche perished from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries sustained in a car accident. Heche collides with a two-story residence, igniting a conflagration.

At 10:55 a.m., a vehicle collided with a residence in the 1700 block of Walgrove Avenue, according to a public information officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. However, they refused to disclose information about the driver, the vehicle, the hospital, or any injuries.

According to the LAPD, the automobile caught fire and the driver was transported to a nearby hospital by EMS. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that a single-occupant vehicle had crashed into and become lodged deep inside a two-story, 738-square-foot residence, causing structural damage and igniting a fire before their arrival.

The Los Angeles Fire Department reports that it took 59 firefighters 65 minutes to access, contain, and fully extinguish the persistent flames within the severely damaged structure, as well as rescue an adult female who was discovered inside a vehicle and transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The Los Angeles Fire Department verified there were no additional injuries.

CBS Los Angeles filmed the aftermath of Heche’s automobile accident with a house.At the time, TMZ reported that Heche was intubated in the hospital but had a strong chance of survival. Unknown was the cause of the accident.

Heche died at 53 years of age.
