In 2021, the 36-year-old actor was identified as a suspect in the case; however, Tiffiny Blacknell, director of the communications bureau for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, has now verified that Armie Hammer will not be charged with sexual assault.

Blackwell explained in a statement obtained by PEOPLE that the case had been withdrawn “due to the complexity of the relationship and our inability to prove a non-consensual, forced sexual encounter beyond a reasonable doubt.”

She added, “Since sexual assault cases are frequently challenging to prove, we designate our most seasoned prosecutors to evaluate them. Mr. Hammer cannot be charged with a crime at this time due to a lack of substantial evidence, as determined by the aforementioned prosecutors following a comprehensive review.

“As prosecutors, it is our ethical obligation to only file charges in cases that we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt.” We are aware that women find it difficult to report sexual assault.

Hammer has consistently denied the allegations brought against him.

Nonetheless, his accuser, Effie, has admitted to being “disappointed” with the outcome of the investigation.

She explained to CNN: “I felt compelled to speak out and file a report in an effort to hold Armie accountable for all the harm and trauma he has caused me, and to prevent other women from experiencing similar abuse.”

How did he acquire this sexual assault charge?

In March 2021, Hammer was investigated by Los Angeles police after a woman named Effie accused him of sexual assault. The Times was told by a source close to the investigation that the woman who submitted the police report was the same woman who in 2017 alleged she was “violently raped” by Hammer.

After meeting on Facebook at age 20, Effie allegedly engaged in a four-year on-again, off-again relationship with actor Hammer.

Hammer, through Brettler, vehemently denied Effie’s allegations, asserting that all of his sexual encounters had been “completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory.”

Hammer was removed from film, television, and Broadway productions as a result of the allegations. As allegations surfaced, the actor was withdrawn from the client roster of the agency WME.

The actor told Air Mail earlier this year, “I’m here to own my mistakes, take responsibility for the fact that I was a jerk, selfish, and used others to make myself feel better, and then I moved on.”
