CoCo Lee cause of death: In a tragic turn of events, singer CoCo Lee has died at the age of 48 following a suicide attempt, as her sisters confirmed in a poignant Facebook post on Wednesday. According to her older sisters, CoCo Lee attempted suicide at home on Sunday, July 2, and was transported to the hospital immediately after. Despite attempts to save her, she remained in a coma until her untimely death on Wednesday.

CoCo had been battling depression for several years, and her condition had deteriorated substantially over the past few months, according to the Facebook post. The post stated, “Although CoCo sought professional help and fought depression, the darkness within her ultimately prevailed.”

She gained fame because of Disney’s Mulan

CoCo Lee was born in Hong Kong and moved to the United States when she was 9 years old. She subsequently returned to Hong Kong to pursue a successful music career. In 1998, she rose to prominence when she sang the Mandarin version of “Reflection” from Disney’s cherished film “Mulan” and supplied the Chinese voice for the film’s title character.

CoCo Lee was the first Chinese-American to perform at the Academy Awards, performing “A Love Before Time” from Ang Lee’s masterpiece “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” In addition, she became Chanel’s first Chinese brand ambassador for the Asia region.

CoCo remained a prominent figure in mainland China for the duration of her career, as her talent and distinctive style made her an iconic pop sensation of the early 2000s. As a judge for numerous singing competitions and reality television programs, she left an indelible impression on the industry.

CoCo Lee is survived by her mother, her spouse, Canadian businessman and former CEO of Hong Kong’s Li & Fung supply chain company Bruce Rockowitz, and two stepdaughters.
