1961 is an excellent year for Will and Geordie. The families are always together, from Sunday lunches to arranging summer vacations, and with Mrs. C and Jack as honorary grandparents and Daniel and Leonard as adopted uncles, it is one large, happy family! But when Will is presented with a life-altering opportunity, is he able to leave Grantchester and Geordie behind?

Geordie has no one to turn to as he contends with personal loss and a growing family conflict between Cathy and his teenage daughter, Esme. However, when he apprehends an intruder breaking into the Vicarage, he may discover that his days of collaborating with a Vicar are not over.

Reverend Alphy Kotteram has an innate dislike for authority and has no interest in participating in homicide investigations. But Alphy and Geordie will discover they have more in common than they initially believe, and Alphy will discover that homicide is never far away in Grantchester.

From homicidal circuses, abandoned infants, and hostile historians to disappearing valets and murderous satirists. Together, Geordie and Alphy experience firsthand how religion can be tainted, as well as how faith, love, and friendship can offer hope – and renewal.

What Novel Does the Grantchester Series Derive From?

The Grantchester Mysteries, a six-volume collection of short stories by James Runcie, offer more vicarious detective work if the delay for season nine is too long.

The books centre on the identity of Sidney Chambers, who was also the main character in the first four seasons of the television series Grantchester (portrayed by James Norton) before Will Davenport (Tom Brittney) was introduced. Runcie’s father, former Canterbury Archbishop Robert Runcie, provided some inspiration for the novels.
