The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has ascertained that cocaine and ethanol toxicity (resulting from alcohol consumption) were the cause of her demise. Her demise was ruled an accident, with no additional factors cited. At this time, the status of the case is “pending.”
According to the American Addiction Center, the concurrent use of cocaine and alcohol “may be hazardous” due to the cardiotoxic effects it induces and the heightened risk of a fatal overdose.
Local broadcaster KTLA reports that last month, after not hearing from the model for several days, Coats’ father and aunt went to check on her and discovered her body.

The Family of Nichole “Nikki” Coats Depicts Her Body
The Shade Room previously reported that the family of the model Nichole informed KTLA last month that her bed was “covered in blood.” The publication reaffirmed this claim in a recent article concerning the medical examiner’s conclusion.
May, the aunt of Nichole, had previously described the condition of her niece at the time of her discovery:
“I couldn’t recognize her. I believe it was murder, I really do. One of her legs was up in the air in a kicking position. That’s not somebody who just laid in their bed and died,” May said.
Nichole’s mother also spoke with KTLA last month while she awaited responses from the investigators:
“This is senseless, and I want some answers because my daughter is gone,” Sharon Coats said. “And it’s not fair. I want everybody to find out who did this to her. She shouldn’t be gone.”
Malessa Mooney, a model, was also found deceased in her residence two days subsequent to the discovery of Nikki by her family. The general public was interested in Nichole and Malessa’s respective cases because of their similar occupations and close proximity.
However, as E! News reported last month, local authorities came to the conclusion that there is no connection between the incidents. “There is no evidence to suggest that Ms. Coats and Ms. Mooney’s deaths are related,” reads their statement dated September 20.
Fox Los Angeles reports that the medical examiner has now determined “homicidal violence” as the cause of death for Mooney. In Cause D of the report, “other significant conditions” are detailed.
As of the finding on September 12th, no advancements have been made regarding any arrests. As per available reports, Malessa’s sister Jourdin Pauline allegedly revealed that the model was two months along in her pregnancy at the time of her death.
