Presidential poll: Droupadi Murmu leads after first round of counting

After the first round of counting, Droupadi Murmu, the NDA’s presidential candidate, is in the lead. Murmu received 540 of the 748 legitimate votes, but Yashwant Sinha received only 204 MP votes were counted first. At around 1:30 p.m., counting got underway at Parliament House.

Around 4 pm, the results are anticipated. Voting started at 11 am, and before the count began, all state ballot boxes were opened.

Notably, the voting began on Thursday at 11 am, and the winner of the race between Droupadi Murmu, the candidate for the BJP-led NDA, and Yashwant Sinha, the candidate for the combined opposition, is expected to be announced today.

The results will determine who would succeed current President Ram Nath Kovind as the nation’s fifteenth President.

Meanwhile, celebrations begin at Odisha’s Rairangpur village, the native place of Droupadi Murmu. Following Murmu’s victory, the Delhi BJP has organised a roadshow from the party’s headquarters to Rajpath. According to sources, there will be several senior executives attending.

The BJP’s state affiliates have all organised victory processions that will be carried out after the results are announced.
