The call came in the morning and the authorities pressed the bomb disposal squad (BDS) into service after cordoning the airport.
Ranchi, July 28: A hoax call informing about a bomb kept the authorities of Birsa Munda Airport at toes on Thursday.
The call came in the morning and the authorities pressed the bomb disposal squad (BDS) into service after cordoning the airport. After an hour-long exercise, the BDS cleared that there is no bomb and the authorities heaved a sigh of relief.
Airport director Vinod Kumar confirmed the situation saying, “It was rumour. There is nothing to be worried about.”
Asked further about it, he expressed his inability to share more information.
An airport official said there was a threat of blowing the airport. “Though nothing was found so far, a plan is being chalked out to register an FIR in this connection,” the official said.
This is not for the first case when the rumor of a bomb at the airport has spread. Such incidents have come to the fore before as well.
On 22nd July 2019, a passenger Satish Kumar Singh called Vistara’s assistant manager Sanjeev Kumar at 7:52 pm to inform him that there was a bomb in his aircraft and they should get it checked as soon as possible.
Later it was told that Satish Kumar was traveling on the same flight and could not reach the airport on time so he spread the rumour to delay the flight.
