Suzanne Somers and Alan Hamel encounter for the first time in 1969

Somers met Hamel on the set of The Anniversary Game, where she was a prize model, and Hamel was the one-year presenter of the syndicated game show. Despite her brief appearance on the programme, Somers and Hamel ignited a flame that has never died out.

In 2017, Somers told PEOPLE that Hamel “turned on women and men.”

“Everyone liked him, and everyone enjoyed his company. “I was simply in awe,” she stated.

To escape paparazzi and city life, Somers and Hamel settled in Palm Springs, California, in pursuit of a quiet, private retreat away from Los Angeles. According to Homes & Gardens, the couple originally purchased the property for $420,000 in 1977.

“As we rode up the romantic funicular, I said to Alan, ‘Let’s buy this,’ and he said to me, ‘Could you please adopt a poker face so we don’t have to pay full price?'” Somers informed PEOPLE. “I was not able to contain my excitement, and we paid more than full price.”

After meeting, Somers and Hamel were inseparable, dating for ten years before getting married in 1977. Together, they laboured to integrate their families (Bruce Jr., Somers’ son from her previous marriage, and Hamel’s two children from his first marriage).
“If you want to get philosophical, did we meet in a previous life?” Somers told PEOPLE that her connection with Canadian Hamel was instantaneous.

She continued, “I believe that due to the 10-year age gap, he has a perspective that I have been catching up on. I believe I’ve been a wonderful teacher for him, as he’s been a great teacher for me.

Hamel is not only Somers’ life companion, but also her business partner. Hamel stated in a 2006 interview with Inc. that Somers’ previous supervisor did not have her best interests in mind.
“When Suzanne was doing Three’s Company, I was doing a television series in Canada,” Hamel commented.”I observed that her manager made many short-term agreements for her instead of career-oriented, long-term deals. I desired to cease producing the Canadian television show, so it was decided that the manager would be let go and I would take over. Since then, we’ve been doing it this way.”

I had just spent $560 on a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes.

How do I explain to my spouse that I spent nearly $600 on a pair of shoes? Somers told Inc., “I was in my dressing room in my pants and thought it was the perfect time to show him.””As I strolled out of the house in a bra, trousers and new heels, I observed my husband’s gaze travel from the shoes to my legs.
She continued, “And he commented, ‘Great legs!'” I then realised that this was the commercial. We’ll pan up to reveal my legs, with my husband’s voice saying, ‘Great legs!’ We ultimately sold more than 10 million ThighMasters.”
