$92.5 Million ICE Settlement: People who were kept in New York jails longer than they should have been might soon get paid. A class action lawsuit was filed against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. The case said ICE told jails, prisons, and rehab centers to keep some people locked up for 48 extra hours so they could start deportation. But this was not allowed, and many people were wrongly held.
In December, the case ended with a $92.5 million settlement for those affected. This money will go to people who were held past their release dates between April 1, 1997, and December 21, 2012.
Will Your Social Security Payment Stop After April 3? Here’s What You Need to Know
To qualify for the money:
The good news is no one needs to show proof to file a claim. As long as the person qualifies, their name should already be on record.
People who are eligible already got a letter in the mail. This letter includes an applicant ID number. That number is important because it must be entered on the official website in order to fill out and submit the claim form online. The deadline to do this is May 15, 2025.
There are two different groups who will be paid.

To receive compensation, eligible class members must submit a valid claim form by May 15, 2025. They need to visit the settlement website, use their ID number, and fill out the claim form before the deadline. The forms may also be printed and sent by mail to the address provided by the settlement administrator.
As long as everything matches the records, they can receive the money they deserve. This settlement helps bring justice to those who were unfairly kept in jail because of illegal actions by ICE.
