Amex Platinum Card Updates

Amex Platinum Card Updates: American Express is making some small but important changes to both the Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. The basic value of the cards is still meant to stay strong, but a few perks will now work in a different way. One perk is going away, and a few lounge rules are getting tighter. These updates start on different dates in May, June, and July 2026.

Uber and Events Perks are Changing

The first change is for the Platinum card’s $200 Uber Cash benefit. Starting May 7, 2026, Uber VIP will be removed. Amex is replacing it with “Signature Support for Amex”, which gives cardmembers 24/7 live help inside the Uber, Uber Eats, and Postmates apps through the Partner Rewards Hub or Help section. Amex says this does not change the existing Uber One credit on the Platinum card.

Another change is coming to “Events with Amex”. That benefit ends on June 10, 2026. The name is going away, but Amex says cardmembers should still see special tickets, exclusive offers, and curated experiences. So the label changes, but the idea behind it is still there.

Centurion Lounge Access gets Stricter

The biggest change for travelers starts on July 8, 2026. Platinum Card and Business Platinum cardmembers will only be able to enter Centurion Lounges within 5 hours of a departing or connecting flight. Guests will also need to be on the same flight as the cardmember. That closes the door on bringing in guests who are not on the same itinerary.

These new rules apply to Centurion Lounges in the U.S., London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Melbourne. Other lounges are not part of this change right now. The official lounge terms also say the guest allowance for Platinum Personal and Platinum Business Cards will drop from two guests to one guest, while Centurion and Corporate Platinum Card Members can still bring up to two guests.

For travelers going with family or friends, the simple rule is this: everyone should be on the same flight before heading to the lounge. Otherwise, guest entry may be refused. Amex’s own lounge terms make it clear that the boarding pass and same-flight rule matter, and access is always subject to space and the lounge rules.
