CalFresh Recertification May 2025: When Is the Last Day to Keep Your Benefits?

California's CalFresh program provides people with monthly EBT cards to buy food, ensuring they can eat healthy, to continue receiving benefits, people must recertify regularly.

CalFresh Recertification May 2025: In California, many families count on CalFresh each month to help buy food. This program gives money to people who have little or no income, so they can eat healthy. The money comes on an EBT card, which works just like a debit card. People can use it in grocery stores and even at some farmers’ markets that take EBT. But to keep getting CalFresh every month, you have to do something very important you must recertify.

Recertification means you need to check in with the program and show that you still qualify. CalFresh looks at things like how much money you make, how many people live in your home, and what bills you pay. If you don’t recertify on time, your food money could stop. Some people lose their benefits just because they forgot or didn’t do it by the deadline.

Important SNAP Changes for May 2025: Are You Still Eligible?

People who get CalFresh get it for a certain number of months, usually 12. When that time is almost up, you have to recertify to keep the help coming. Some people don’t need to do this as often. If everyone in the house is older or has a disability and doesn’t have a job, they might only need to recertify every 24 or even 36 months. But for most people, it’s every year.

When You Need to Recertify for May?

If your CalFresh benefits end in May, you must finish your recertification by the 5th day of the month before that. So if your benefits end on May 10, you need to finish everything by April 10. If you wait too long, your money might stop, and it could take time to start again.

You’ll need to send in an updated form and do an interview. You can talk with someone by phone, in person, or another way that works for your local CalFresh office. They use this interview to make sure your information is correct and to figure out how much help you should get.

You Can Recertify Online

A lot of counties in California let people recertify online. You can go to www.benefitscal.org to check if your county has this option. Doing it online can be easier and faster for many people.

CalFresh is more than just help with food. It’s also a big help with money stress for many families. That’s why it’s very important to keep up with dates and get the paperwork done before the deadline. Missing it could mean you lose your benefits, even if you still qualify. So always check your mail or email from CalFresh and talk to your county office if you’re not sure about anything.
