The purpose of the relief efforts is to assist individuals impacted by the tragedies that occurred in both states.

The IRS states that residents of Boyd, Carter, Fayette, Greenup, Henry, Jefferson, Jessamine, Mason, Oldham, Union, and Whitley counties in Kentucky are eligible for tax relief programs. They now have additional time to complete their tax returns, thanks to this extension. The deadline for finishing tax returns is November for residents of West Virginia in the following counties: Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Fayette, Hancock, Kanawha, Lincoln, Marshall, Nicholas, Ohio, Preston, Putnam, Tyler, Wayne, and Wetzel.

The government stressed that the deadline for filing 2023 tax reports and making any required payments is now November 1, 2024, for many firms and people in these locations.
