It gives low income families money to buy food, working like SNAP benefits and basically help them survive. Each eligible child can get up to $120 for the summer as well. The program is meant to help families provide nutritious meals while school is not in session.
Who can get Summer EBT?
Children has to meet certain requirements to get the benefits:
- Child between 6 and 16 years old: Receive benefits from SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid during the eligibility period.
- A child of any age: Be directly certified for free school meals through the National School Lunch Program by their school.
If a child is not automatically selected, families can apply manually:
- Child must go to a school that takes part in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
- Household income must be at or below 185% of the federal poverty level.
Each family that qualifies will receive $120 per child.
