Social Security Check Coming December 24, 2025: Who Will Get Paid?

Social Security payments for December 2025 will be sent on December 24 for eligible beneficiaries. Here is who qualifies, payment rules, and what to know if your check is delayed.

Social Security December 24: Social Security checks for December 2025 are going out normally. The Social Security Administration is following its usual payment plan. People who were born between the 21st and 31st of any month will get their payment on December 24, 2025. Many people will see the money reach their bank account on that day.

Even though Christmas and New Year holidays are close, the SSA is not changing this payment date. December 24 is not a federal holiday, so payments will still be sent as planned.

Social Security December 24: Who will get Paid?

People who qualify for Social Security and have birthdays after December 20 will receive their benefit on December 24.

To qualify a person must have worked enough years and earned the required work credits. Usually, people need about ten years of work to qualify for retirement benefits.

The payment amount depends on how much someone earned during their working years. People who worked many years and earned higher income could receive close to $4,018 per month. Most people will receive less than that, depending on their work history.

Supplemental Security Income, also called SSI, follows a different rule. SSI payments for December were already sent on December 1. Since January 1 is a holiday, the SSI payment for January 2026 will be sent early on December 31, 2025.

Your Social Security Payment can be Late

Sometimes payments arrive late, and this can worry people. There are a few common reasons. If you recently changed your address or bank details, the SSA may need extra time to update records. Holidays and staff shortages at local offices can also slow things down.

If you just applied for Social Security your payment may take time to start. Regular benefits can take a few months to begin. Disability benefits can take even longer, sometimes up to seven months.

If your payment does not show up on time, the SSA says you should wait three business days before calling. First, check your payment date on the my Social Security website. If the money still does not arrive after three days, you can call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 from Monday to Friday.
