Social Security September 2025: September 2025 is a little different for people who depend on Social Security checks. Because of the way holidays fall, the payment calendar has shifted, and many people are worried about when their money will actually come in. These payments, whether it’s SSI or SSDI, are often the main way families cover rent, food, and health care, so knowing the right date makes a huge difference.

SSDI payment dates in September

For Social Security Disability Insurance, the day you get paid depends on the date of your birthday. If your birthday is early in the month, you get paid earlier, and if it’s later, you get paid toward the end.

  • If you were born between the 1st and the 10th, your check will arrive on Wednesday, September 10.
  • If your birthday is between the 11th and the 20th, the money will come on Wednesday, September 17.
  • if you were bor from the 21st to the 31st, your payment date will be Wednesday, September 24.

But there are some exceptions. People who have been receiving their benefits since before May 1997, or people who get SSI and SSDI at the same time, do not follow the birthday rule. For them, the deposit will come much earlier, on Wednesday, September 3.

The amount of money a person gets depends on their past work history and how much they paid into Social Security. For many, it can be more than $1,200 a month, which is money needed for basic things like housing, health costs, and groceries. Knowing exactly when it hits your account helps you plan ahead and avoid stress.

SSI schedule change this month

Now when it comes to Supplemental Security Income (SSI), things are a little more tricky in September. Normally, SSI is always paid on the first of the month. But September 1, 2025, falls on Labor Day, which is a national holiday. Because of that, Social Security has decided to send the payment a little earlier.

Instead of September 1, people who receive SSI will get their money on Friday, August 29. That means in August, there will actually be two SSI payments one on August 1 and one on August 29. But in September, there will be no deposit at all. Some people might be surprised when they check their account in September and see nothing, but it is just the schedule moving around, not a missing payment.
