LA28 Olympic Games: Squash is celebrating the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) official decision to include squash in the LA28 Olympic Games sports programme.

WSF, US Squash, and PSA are grateful to the Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and the IOC for recognising squash’s contribution to the Olympic Games.

The addition of squash to the Games will assist the IOC and LA28 in achieving their mission to “deliver an unparalleled experience” for athletes, spectators, and the entire sports community. Additionally, squash will leave a positive and enduring legacy in the Los Angeles community, where youth will have access to and the opportunity to participate and compete in the sport for future generations.

With two medal events – men’s and women’s singles competitions – this momentous decision allows squash’s elite athletes to compete on the largest sporting stage in the world.

President of the WSF Zena Wooldridge said:

“On behalf of the entire global squash community, I am ecstatic that squash has been included. Squash is an incredibly dynamic, diverse, and demanding sport that is ideal for the Olympics. Everyone associated with our sport is thrilled to be headed to Los Angeles in 2028, and we look forward to being a part of an unmatched Olympic Games experience.”

CEO of US Squash, Kevin Klipstein, stated:

“The inclusion of squash in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles is a major milestone for the sport. The inclusion of squash in the Olympic Games has been a long-held objective of the squash community, and its inclusion will serve as a catalyst to raise awareness of what is already a globally popular sport with a rich history. Access to the sport and the opportunities it affords people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds will continue to expand. We look forward to supporting Team USA and the squash community prior to, during, and after the Olympics.”

Alex Gough, chief executive of PSA, stated:

“Our athletes have worked tirelessly to earn this honour, and we are grateful for the chance to witness them compete for glory.” This inclusion represents a significant milestone in squash’s evolution, and I look forward to seeing our athletes inspire the world with their incredible skill and athleticism on the grandest stage.”

United States number one Amanda Sobhy remarked:

“Being able to compete in the Olympic Games is everything that an athlete could hope for. The ability to compete for an Olympic gold medal and simply claim that you were an Olympian is something that can never be taken away.

“To have the opportunity to compete at LA28 in front of friends, family, and a home crowd would be so meaningful.”

The LA28 Organising Committee will release additional information regarding the sporting schedule of the Olympic Games.
