Why were the US Open tee times so late: Golf enthusiasts who follow the PGA Tour outside of the United States will be accustomed to staying up late to watch their favourite players.
Third-round tee dates at Los Angeles Country Club for the 2023 U.S. Open, however, challenged even the most fervent golf enthusiasts.
Why were the US Open tee times so late?
Ryan Fox, playing alone in the first “group,” teed off at 9:33 a.m. local time, which was equivalent to 5:33 p.m. in the United Kingdom.
Rickie Fowler and Wyndham Clark did not begin their pursuit of major championship triumph until 11:40 p.m. EST, or 3:40 p.m. local time.
How did the golf times become so late? Would golf enthusiasts outside of the United States remain awake and tune in throughout the night, or would they succumb to swollen eyelids?
Should they be the primary concern in this situation?
A USGA representative informed NCG that the tee times were always scheduled so that the organisation could take advantage of an East Coast prime-time broadcast window.
They added that the final day’s tee times would commence roughly an hour earlier to accommodate a trophy ceremony and a potential playoff.
