UIDAI's Stern Warning

UIDAI’s Stern Warning: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) issued a precautionary warning against sharing identity or address verification documents via email or WhatsApp in order to update their Aadhaar card. According to the authority, no one is ever required to provide documents in this manner, and such requests are likely fraudulent.

“UIDAI will never ask you to share your POI/POA documents via email or Whatsapp in order to update your #Aadhaar. You can update your Aadhaar online via #myAadhaarPortal or by visiting Aadhaar centres in your area,” the Aadhaar issuance body wrote on X (previously Twitter).

The UIDAI has been encouraging residents to upload Proof of Identity and Proof of Address (PoI/PoA) documents to revalidate their demographic information if their Aadhaar was issued more than ten years ago and was never updated. This will increase the success rate of authentication, leading to improved service delivery and greater living convenience.

UIDAI’s Stern Warning: How To Upload Free Address Verification:

  • Visit the website https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/
  • Sign in with your credentials and select “Update Name, Gender, Birth Date, and Address.”
  • Select the option “Update Aadhaar Online.”
  • Click “Proceed to Update Aadhaar” after selecting an address from the demographic option.
  • Upload a scanned copy of the document and complete the remaining mandatory fields.
  • Make the mandatory payment. (Not applicable until September 14th)
  • Now that a service request number has been generated, you can save it.

How To Track Requests For Updates:

You will obtain a URN (Update Request Number) after submitting a request to change your address on your Aadhaar card. The URN number will be displayed on-screen and sent via SMS to the mobile number registered with your account. Visit https://ssup.uidai.gov.in/checkSSUPStatus/checkupdatestatus to monitor the status of your Aadhaar card update.
