NEET-UG: Physics score over bio for tie-breaker

The NTA released the NEET-UG 2023 results on June 13, 2018.

NEET-UG: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has decided to revise the tie-breaker procedure for determining the ranks of candidates with identical NEET scores by giving physics marks precedence over chemistry and biology marks. This is contrary to the current practice of assigning priority to biology, chemistry, and physics grades.
The new regulations, which were announced on 2 June, are likely to be implemented the following year.

According to the recently issued Graduate Medical Education Regulations-2023, a computerised lottery will be used to determine the merit list in the event that subject grades cannot break an impasse. No human intervention would be involved in the drawing of lots. Currently, candidates with identical subject scores are ranked higher if they are elderly.

The recent notification of the “Graduate Medical Education Regulations-2023” by NMC also stipulates that MBBS students have nine years from the date of admission to complete the course, with four trials to pass the first year.

In the event of a tie in marks among students taking the NEET-UG, the respective marks obtained in Physics, followed by Chemistry, and then Biology in the NEET-UG will be considered; provided that if the tie persists, the eligible candidates will be selected through a computer-generated lottery with no human intervention.

If two or more candidates receive identical marks/percentile scores, the tie-breaker rule is used to determine their ranks according to the existing guidelines.

The NTA released the NEET-UG 2023 results on June 13, 2018.

The NMC regulations stated, “Under no circumstances shall the student be permitted more than four (4) attempts for the first year (First Professional MBBS) and no student shall be permitted to continue the undergraduate medical course after nine (09) years from the date of admission.”

In accordance with the Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship Regulations, 2021, a student admitted to a graduate medical education programme will not be considered to have graduated until he or she has completed a rotating medical internship.
